According to the Bible book of Exodus chapter 12, Pesach or Passover is a Hebrew festival that God instituted for the Israelites when they were slaves in the land of Egypt at the time of Moses. It is celebrated on the 14th day of the first Hebrew month (Chodesh 1), which corresponds to the month of Aviv, Abib or Nisan. In the context of the Israelites in Egypt, it was necessary to sacrifice an innocent lamb, without defect on the 14th day of the first month to protect the people of Israel from a plague, from the death of the first born.

“Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats.  Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight.” Exodus 12:5-6.

This is the second feast of the Lord that was instituted after the weekly biblical Sabbath (Shabbat in the Hebrew calendar or Saturday in the Gregorian calendar). This major festival is one of the three major pilgrimage festivals in Israel. It introduces the barley harvest season, the first agricultural cycle of the biblical year, which always arrives in spring.

Researchers and historians such as Flavius Josephus, Jahn, Buhle, Michaelis have confirmed that barley is ripe in April. Aviv, Abib or Chodesh 1 of its real Hebrew name, is therefore the first month of the Torah, the Tanakh and the New Testament.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row row_height_percent=”0″ override_padding=”yes” h_padding=”2″ top_padding=”3″ bottom_padding=”3″ overlay_alpha=”100″ gutter_size=”3″ shift_y=”0″ row_height_use_pixel=””][vc_column column_width_use_pixel=”yes” align_horizontal=”align_center” gutter_size=”4″ overlay_alpha=”50″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ zoom_width=”0″ zoom_height=”0″ column_width_pixel=”1000″ uncode_shortcode_id=”181280″][vc_row_inner row_inner_height_percent=”0″ overlay_alpha=”50″ gutter_size=”3″ shift_y=”0″ row_height_use_pixel=”” limit_content=””][vc_column_inner column_width_percent=”100″ position_horizontal=”left” align_horizontal=”align_center” gutter_size=”3″ overlay_alpha=”50″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ medium_width=”0″ zoom_width=”0″ zoom_height=”0″ width=”1/1″][vc_custom_heading text_font=”font-136269″ text_size=”fontsize-338686″ text_uppercase=”” uncode_shortcode_id=”117248″]The medieval protest of the Karaite Jews[/vc_custom_heading][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner row_inner_height_percent=”0″ overlay_alpha=”50″ gutter_size=”3″ shift_y=”0″ row_height_use_pixel=”” limit_content=””][vc_column_inner column_width_percent=”100″ position_horizontal=”left” align_horizontal=”align_center” gutter_size=”3″ overlay_alpha=”50″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ medium_width=”0″ zoom_width=”0″ zoom_height=”0″ width=”1/1″][vc_column_text text_lead=”yes” uncode_shortcode_id=”934728″]

Between the 8th and 10th centuries, the medieval protest of the Karaite Jews led to the revival of the Mosaic calendar or the original luni-solar biblical calendar. This important current of Judaism, which relies on the writing of the Torah and not on the Talmud and the New Testament, had allowed the month of Nisan (Aviv) to be restored for a number of centuries to the original position of the barley harvest in April-May, correctly following the last rain in March.

For the record, the Karaites Jews are believed to have originated in Baghdad (around the 7th-9th centuries), although some scholars claim that the Karaites were already living in Egypt in the first half of the 7th century. Today this Jewish community is present in several countries. Censuses between 2014 and 2018 showed that the largest Karaites community was in Israel and Ukraine in the Crimea.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text_font=”font-136269″ text_size=”fontsize-338686″ text_uppercase=”” uncode_shortcode_id=”318920″]Grace Edith Amadon on the biblical calendar[/vc_custom_heading][vc_column_text text_lead=”yes” uncode_shortcode_id=”167740″]

The work of researcher, musician, teacher, illustrator and writer Grace Edith Amadon reveals that Pesach (Passover) was celebrated by the ancient Israelites during the month of April or May. This varied according to the Hebrew year, which could be leap year or not, but also according to the period of barley harvest according to the rules of the ancient luni-solar Mosaic calendar. Therefore, these dates generally differ from the rabbinic Jewish calendar, which is the most famous and generally followed in the Jewish community and among some Christians.

It is important to note that this researcher was outstanding in the fields of linguistics, science and mathematics. This quickly earned her the trust and admiration of many religious leaders, academics and also astronomers at the U.S. Naval Observatory where she served as a consultant before World War II. She also showed with the ancient Jewish almanacs, astronomical data and especially the prophecies of the book of Daniel the precise date of the crucifixion of the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) and that of his resurrection at a time of Passover in Jerusalem.

We can understand why St. John the Baptist said about Yeshua: “This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. (John 1:29) or the apostle Paul, a student of Rabbi Gamaliel: “For Christ, our Passover, has been slain” (1 Corinthians 5:7).

Among the various rules for determining the date of Passover according to the ancient biblical calendar, the most important according to the research work of Grace Edith Amadon and her collaborators is this one: “By the single simple rule of placing the date of Passover on the 14th of Aviv (Nissan) on the day following the Jewish full moon day on the meridian of Jerusalem, one establishes a good calendrical practice of the ancient luni-solar type, in harmony with the first appearance of the moon after the conjunction.

Following this logic, the Passover date for April 2022 was April 17, 2022 from sunset on April 16. For more information, you can view the restored biblical calendar HephzibahSDA. For novices, the biblical Sabbath is a holiday that begins at sundown on Friday and ends at sundown on Saturday.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text_font=”font-136269″ text_size=”fontsize-338686″ text_uppercase=”” uncode_shortcode_id=”946106″]An updated biblical calendar.[/vc_custom_heading][vc_column_text text_lead=”yes” uncode_shortcode_id=”155623″]

This calendar is different because it respects the rules of the ancient Israelites according to the work of Grace Edith Amadon and is also based on astronomical data that are available on the NASA website. In addition, this calendar specifies the approximate dating of the age of the Earth according to biblical, prophetic and historical data. It highlights the different dates of each of the feasts of the Lord for the year April 2022 to April 2023 with a messianic and Christocentric approach.

If you want to learn more about the approximate age of the Earth according to the Bible, HephzibahSDA has a unique and detailed map that complements the biblical calendar with all the data and verifiable sources to help you better understand the dating of this biblical calendar and some biblical prophecies from the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation.
